Nakishia Freeman is the upbeat creative behind the popular Freeman Jewelry Collection brand. Born and raised in Riviera Beach, Freeman is the oldest of three kids, and gained her go-getter attitude from her mother. “[Being the eldest child] helped me to achieve a lot of my goals because my mom was very stern.” Freeman says. “She showed us how to live; she showed us how to get out there…If it weren’t for my mom, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today.”
Freeman’s early rearing shaped the make-it-happen attitude that undergirds her successful endeavors nowadays. This mindset and Freeman’s willingness to fearlessly try new things has given her the staying power in her industry. “I tried being a makeup artist; it was okay. I even went to school to be an esthetician. But, it wasn’t until I started making jewelry that I knew I had found my passion.” Freeman says.
Freeman’s official introduction to the jewelry-making industry happened when she attended a jewelry expo with her husband more than eight years ago. “I got into jewelry by attending a show in West Palm Beach…and I walked around and visited booths, and I told my husband ‘I can create jewelry too’.” Freeman says. The inspiration from this show led her to research the industry and learn what it took to produce and sell jewelry. After scouring the Internet and purchasing her supplies, the rest is truly history.
When it comes to her handcrafted pieces, Freeman loves working with Swarovski crystals, beads, gemstones, leather and different metals. But her creativity doesn’t stop with jewelry making. Freeman also creates unique branded items like pendants, key chains and business card holders for fellow business owners in Palm Beach County. Freeman also has a passion for using her platform to positively impact the community. During the holiday season, Freeman assembles care packs for the homeless population, and she offers a free entrepreneurship and self-esteem seminar for girls ages 7-16, which she calls FreePreneurs.
Nakishia Freeman is a strong believer in the limitless possibilities available to individuals who set their minds to accomplish their goals. Her advice for anyone who’d like to follow in her footsteps is simple: “Go for it. If your heart is in it, go for it.”
