Palm Beach County residents are preparing for the release of the much-anticipated Black Panther film. The Marvel comic adaptation is set to hit theaters on Friday, Feb. 16, and features an all-black lead cast. In response to the film’s buzzing popularity, local moviegoers have planned a red carpet watch party to celebrate the premiere.
Local Designer, Harold Caudio organized the official Black Panther Watch Party, and says the idea for the red carpet event came from a status update on Facebook. “I said it would be cool if all of us could dress up really nice and go and see the movie.” Caudio said. “I got a good response from that [status].” From there, Caudio created an official event page to attract more guests.
The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the AMC City Place Theater (545 Hibiscus St.) in West Palm Beach. The red carpet festivities begin at 9:00 pm and will feature sponsored giveaways and prizes for best dressed. Guests will watch the 10:10 pm showing of the Black Panther movie in IMAX 3-D.
Caudio says that he hopes events like this will promote more unity in Palm Beach County and incite a renewed interest in creating events that promote community involvement and recreation. He also says that the buzz around the film is helping minorities truly understand the power of the black dollar. “There have been other black super hero films, but people are starting to see that black dollars do matter.” Caudio says. “I just feel like all of us need to unify and put our dollars together.”
