‘Get Out’ Scores Four 2018 Oscar Nominations, Mary J Blige & Octavia Butler Also Earn Noms

Girls Trip actress Tiffany Haddish and Black Panther star Andy Serkis announced the 2018 Academy Award nominations via live stream with Academy President John Bailey.

Director Jordan Peele earned a best director nomination for his socially-charged thriller Get Out. This makes him the fifth African-American director nominated in this category. Get Out was also nominated for best picture, best original screenplay and best actor, Daniel Kaluuya.

2012 Oscar winner, Octavia Spencer is nominated for best supporting actress for her role in The Shape of Water. She has made history as the first African-American actress to receive multiple nominations after a win.

Grammy Award winning singer, who recently received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Mary J. Blige was nominated for best supporting actress and best original song for Mighty River, from the acclaimed Netflix film Mudbound. Fellow songwriters Raphael Saadiq and Taura Stinton join Blige in their joint best original song nomination.

Jimmy Kimmel will host the 90th Academy Awards show at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood on March 4, and it will be broadcast on ABC.
