What is it that you desire as a small business owner? More leads? More customers or clients? More support?
You must be able to clearly answer this question if success is what you desire.
I truly believe that small business owners have to put out into the atmosphere what we want in return. The reason I say this is because we can’t say in one breath that we want support when we aren’t willing to give daily support to others. I personally go out of my way to support others everyday. And while I’m on the subject of support, it doesn’t have to necessarily equate to purchasing products or services. You can simply share someone’s business page on Facebook. That takes all of three seconds. If you have more time to invest, you can invite all your Facebook friends to like someone else’s business page.
You can also give support by sharing a marketing tip that has been effective for you. I openly share tips with others who inquire about my secret sauce for getting more than 300,000+ Bombshell Boutique fans on my social media outlets.
But back to what I was saying about putting out into the atmosphere what we genuinely desire. Like the golden rule proclaims, business owners should do for others what we would want others to do for us. For example, there are several times during the week that local business owners will call me and say, “Hey Shelly, I am on my way to your shop; do you need anything?” They always keep me in mind. My shop isn’t their shop, but they understand that having and maintaining an establishment isn’t easy and requires support in all forms and fashion. A call to ask if I need anything means everything to me on my best and worst days.
A final word on support: The support you receive in return won’t come from the sources and people you expect. Since, I’ve been on this journey of being a small business owner, a majority of my support has been from strangers; not the friends and family I initially expected. God has put people in my path to specifically bless me. Some relationships have been temporary and others more longterm. But in the end, the people that support me the most freely are initially strangers.
I perform good deeds for plenty of small business owners on a daily basis with no expectations. But the return on this investment has been invaluable. In essence, support and support will be given unto you.
